The Guidelines, conceived as an essential step in building continuity from preschool to grade three, respond to school districts’ many questions about developmentally appropriate kindergarten practices in the twenty-first century.

The document examines the major components of successful kindergarten programming. School districts are encouraged to use the Guidelines as a springboard for discussion and action. Applied systematically and comprehensively, these components can yield high-quality programming for New Jersey’s kindergarten classrooms.
